The Foreign Missions Team guides our parish’s efforts to support ministry both overseas as well as ministries directed to those who have made the journey from mission field countries to our own nation. Current efforts include support of World Relief Upstate, a local ministry helping to settle refugees who have fled their own countries due to persecution or political distress. Support has also been organized for MOST (Ministry of Outreach to Slavic Tribes), a ministry based in Columbia, SC and led by Alex and Irina Ponamarev, reaching out to immigrants from the Ukraine, from Russia, and from other eastern European countries. The team also guides efforts to support the Global Partnership Churches of the Anglican Province of America that are located in Haiti, Ecuador, India, and the Philippines. Fr. Rivard serves on the Provincial Missions Board and has visited and developed relationships with a number of the clergy and parishes in those Global Partnerships.
In addition, the Foreign Missions Team encourages our parish to pray and support Christians who suffer persecution for their faith in the world today. Keeping in touch with Voice of the Martyrs, periodically gathering donations and supplies, and arranging for Saint George’s to “adopt” pastors who serve the persecuted church by promising to , have all been a part of the effort to keep our persecuted brothers and sisters in the forefront of our minds.
