The Community Outreach Team of Saint George the Martyr is focused primarily on three aspects of reaching out to the local community. First, the team cooperates with Greer Community Ministries through a variety of means including regular contributions to the food bank as well as the annual school supply and Christmas present drives.
Secondly, the team works to support Piedmont Women’s Center, a local pregnancy center working towards helping pregnant mothers decide against abortion.
Third, the team has worked in cooperation with the Foreign Missions Team in supporting ministry to refugees through World Relief Upstate as well as ministry to international students by helping to organize an annual Thanksgiving Dinner for International Students.
Other efforts include gathering contributions for Safe Harbor, a ministry to victims of domestic abuse, and organizing outreach to nursing homes through Christmas caroling. In addition to the work of the team, other members of Saint George’s knit blankets and hats for pre-maturely born infants while others work on creating blankets for the Linus Project that are given to older children who have been hospitalized and need comfort. These hats blankets are blessed by Fr. Paul and distributed to very grateful hospital workers, and are ultimately received by grateful young children and families.
